Ezekiel Bread: How Healthy Or Not Are These Breads
Ezekiel breads are generally healthier breads as they are made from sprouted grains and seeds; sprouting has many benefits such as:
Sprouted grain differs from whole grain in three fundamental aspects: 1) sprouting activates food enzymes; 2) sprouting increases vitamin content, and 3) sprouting neutralizes antinutrients like phytic acid which bind up minerals preventing your ability to fully absorb them. When examining the nutrient density of sprouted wheat to unsprouted wheat on a calorie-per-calorie basis, you’ll find that sprouted wheat contains four times the amount of niacin and nearly twice the amount of vitamin B6 and folate as unsprouted wheat; moreover, it contains more protein and fewer starches than non-sprouted grain and as a further boon, it is lower on the glycemic index making it more suitable for those suffering from blood sugar issues. – Source: Nourished Kitchen
As FoodSniffr has found, this brand of breads also comes in vegan, vegetarian, and yeast-free varieties. (More recently, Ezekiel has also come out with a couple of gluten free varieties, which FoodSniffr has yet to ‘sniff’). This is a great boon to people who are looking for dairy free and lactose free breads, or folks with issues with yeast (yeast-free breads are such a rarity!).

As you can see from the Ezekiel Breads that we have analyzed at FoodSniffr. while the ingredients are largely clean, the biggest problem with many of these breads is that they have hidden MSG in them. So what’s wrong with MSG? For starters:
MSG is an excitotoxin, meaning that it over stimulates the brain causing the production of excessive amounts of dopamine. This creates a drug-like rush that provides a brief sensation of well being.
